Twisted Turnip

“What would you do if you could do anything you wanted? I would have my own place to cook.” Little did I realize this conversation would have such an impact.

Twisted Turnip started as a dream many, many years ago. It has evolved many times over the years, but the idea has pretty much stayed the course. Our concept is simple. Fresh homestyle cooking. With a twist.

Learning to cook in my grandmother’s and aunt’s kitchens, I knew at an early age I loved cooking. Not just the food itself. I loved the community of the kitchen. My family kitchen led me to culinary school at Johnson & Wales in Charleston, SC. Johnson & Wales opened the doors to many kitchens throughout the southeast. I’ve kept my Southern roots close when it comes to my personal style of cooking. I always find my way to the kitchen. Even at social gatherings. It’s where you will find the heart of the home or restaurant.

Throughout my years of cooking, I’ve met many along the way who share my same passion of good food. Some of those have become my partners and are why we are here today. This has become a passion project for all of us. To create an atmosphere that is beautifully inviting for the whole family to enjoy. The relationship that has been formed through these events between our families is something that we will cherish for years. Twisted Turnip is a restaurant that all our family, friends, and guests can be proud of for hopefully generations to come.

Thomas Keller of The French Laundry once said, “A recipe has no soul. You, as the cook, must bring soul to the recipe.” So, when asked if I could do anything, the answer was easy. The name was the hardest part. But when we thought about it, it was clear.

TWISTED TURNIP – Turnip keeps us true to our roots. The twist is our way of giving it a soul.
