The Beyond Melanin Project
The Beyond Melanin Project, nestled in the heart of Idaho, serves as a beacon for artists of color across all creative spectrums. Our mission is clear: to foster a collaborative environment where BIPOC artists can flourish and redefine narratives through their craft. For over a decade, we've passionately dedicated ourselves to providing a platform that transcends the conventional portrayal of struggle and strife within the BIPOC community. Through financial support, collaborative opportunities, and a dedicated showcase, we endeavor to amplify the diverse voices and experiences within the performing arts.
My journey, spanning thirteen years in the performing and circus arts, has deeply influenced the ethos of The Beyond Melanin Project. From my roots as a cheerleader to my evolution as an aerialist and duo partner, each phase has shaped my artistic vision. I've discovered the transformative power of storytelling through movement and performance, embracing the opportunity to convey emotions and narratives that transcend words. As a queer, black artist, my work aims to challenge perceptions, inspire fellow artists of color, and cultivate a richer, more inclusive artistic landscape. Through projects like "Strange Fruit" and "Intimacy," I blend disciplines to provoke thought, evoke emotion, and spark dialogue, striving to redefine the narrative surrounding black experiences in the performing arts. With each endeavor, I am committed to not only evolving as an artist but also fostering a community where creativity knows no bounds.
