I recently visited my Great Grandparents, Peter and Marie Miller, and Great Uncle Emil Miller at the Santa Rosa Memorial Park. I found a Corporal John Barton of the 7th California Infantry , Company K, born Jan 6, 1837- died May 11, 1921 sharing the plot with them. I had never heard his name mentioned by any of my family. So, I went to Ancestry to search his name. I found he had joined the Union army on 19 November 1864 in Loyalton, California. I also found that he was a blacksmith by trade and lived in Sacramento and Santa Rosa after his service. He had a son Cornelius Barton, who worked as a miner at the Empire Mine. I was wondering what mark, if any, he and his family may have made in Loyalton?
