Corporal John Barton of Loyalton

I have been working on my family's genealogy since I retired. I recently visited my Great Grandparents, Peter and Marie Miller, and Great Uncle Emil Miller at the Santa Rosa Memorial Park. I found a Corporal John Barton of the 7th California Infantry , Company K, born Jan 6, 1837- died May 11, 1921 sharing the plot with them. I had never heard his name mentioned by any of my family. So, I went to Ancestry to search his name. I found he had joined the Union army on 19 November 1864 in Loyalton, California. I also found that he was a blacksmith by trade and lived in Sacramento and Santa Rosa after his service. He had a son Cornelius Barton, who worked as a miner at the Empire Mine. I was wondering what mark, if any, he and his family may have made in Loyalton? Or if Loyalton was just the beginning of an adventure and life that ended next to my family.

Thanks for any information,
Christopher Miller
