JULY 20TH, 2023

Dear Jan and Nichole
I want to congratulate you on the 4th (6th) of July issue of the Booster. All of the articles and photographs of Sierra County's Holiday happenings, on both sides of the hill, were great. From pre-school graduation to a 99th Birthday, and to Tim Beals' retirement from 50 years -OMG- of being Sierra County's "Director of Everything". WoW, keep up that superb coverage!
A note of concern; Amid the "friendly banter" (LOL!) between us "Marxist Democrats" and those "Cranky Conservatives" (LOL again!), those 2 notable gentlemen from Outer Loyalton have been missed. Two issues have now passed without seeing their screed. And without that, there is the loss of our ability to straighten them out. I am certainly hopeful that they are merely on vacation somewhere, and not ill... If they are (physically) ill, I for one wish them a Speedy Recovery!
Sincerely,
Russell Rosewood, Calpine

Subject: Affirmative Action
The purpose of affirmative action in the United States was to create government programs to overcome the effects of past societal discrimination by allocating jobs and resources to members of specific groups, such as minorities and women. There is no question that past societal discrimination occurred in the United States and perhaps the only appropriate remedy {at the time} was affirmative action. However, I believe this policy has outlived its purpose. Anywhere you look in the United States, minorities are well represented. Besides, there is a limit to punishing people for the sins of their forefathers. It is unfair to award preference based on race when all other qualifications are equal. This not only undermines the means to determining the best candidates but also serves to de-legitimize the accomplishments of someone who was given preference based on race. Those opposed to affirmative action look to section one of the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution of the United
States.
I believe the minorities of this country have been given enough time to allow for the "cream to rise to the top" and now must take their equal position along side of the majority. The time is long overdue to stop
rewarding underachieving individuals because of their race and start rewarding overachieving individuals because of their accomplishments.
To do otherwise, would mean denying the very principles set forth in the Fourteenth Amendment.

Hello!
Indian Valley Innovation Hub's (IVIH) Made in Plumas County (MIPC) Program is designed to support Plumas based product makers.
At this time, IVIH is looking for high quality products to feature in the MIPC booth at the Plumas-Sierra County Fair on July 27th through 30th. At this event IVIH will not charge a commission, however we anticipate doing so at events in the future.
We have several clients in the Greenville and Quincy areas and we're looking to increase membership in Eastern Plumas and in the Lake Almanor Area. Please send your high quality product maker members our way! The Made in Plumas County Program is an excellent way to support these local businesses!
Thank-you,

A POLITICAL DISCUSSION was held on June 30th at Los Dos Hermanos restaurant in Sierraville, with “Calpine Communist” Russell Rosewood and “Sierraville-Sparks Socialist” Don McKechnie in attendance. Cory Peterman, a politically-unaffiliated former Sierra County resident who was visiting from Italy (where he reaps the benefits of universal public healthcare and other services), was to act as moderator, but the “Cranky Conservatives” from Loyalton were not available to attend. Thus, a proper debate could not be held. Beer and margaritas were served to the three men in attendance, since children's blood (said to be a favorite of the Satan-worshipping cabal of Democrats) was not on the menu at this immigrant-run establishment. Despite the differences between the three men in beverage consumption, the bill was split equally between all, since no Republicans were there to argue that everyone should pay only what he/she/they respectively owes.

Hi Janice,
During June of 2023, I sold the Summit Schoolhouse near Vinton, CA.
It was a privilege for Ed and me to have purchased it and have it available for the community, which includes decedents of former students and teachers.
Through the years, Ed and I made many friends in Plumas and Sierra Counties. During the times we were part of the Sierra Valley Art & Ag Trail, it was a privilege to meet those who took such a pleasure in learning and hearing of the schoolhouse's part of America's history.
We had wonderful times showing the schoolhouse to those who stopped by, as well as when we used it to host church groups, Bible studies, and SVAAT Planning Committee meetings.
Thank you to all of you who took part and donated to our little driveway library.
During the COVID and smoky summers, Ed's Congestive Heart Failure and Alzheimer's were taking a turn for the worse, and we kept our visits to the schoolhouse at a minimum. Ed passed away December 24, 2022.
I am very thankful to our neighbors, Andy and Megan Joy, for purchasing the schoolhouse, with the intent of preserving it, which will carry on the reason Ed & I had purchased it.

Thank you, all, for your friendship, your help, and your community involvement.

With heart-felt gratitude,
Diane Yang
