September 3rd Letters

People beware.....
For decades I've paid off my monthly credit card balance in full way before the due date to avoid their exhorbitant interest rates.. Twice in the last year my credit card company has attempted to charge me for late payment and interest becaise my payment hadn't arrived before their computer automatically added a charge to my account. Once I called, charges were reversed.......Lesson I've learned? Check your credit card statement carefully to ensure that you are not being improperly charged. The culprit? the inconsistencies of USPS lst Class postage delivery seems to be the problem. Delivery time from Loyalton to Chicago has ranged from 3-21 days for me. Maybe this is a new profit center for banks who levy the charges knowing many people will not check their statement carefully?

Letter to Editor:
Corruption at its best, Sierra County Supervisors giving Beals $21,307.07 for billing he claims from the 1970's. He claims politics were diverse so he had to wait I guess until he had a complete corrupt Marxist group of San Francisco thinkers that pay $21,307.07 for a maybe claim 40 years old, for what the claim was $1976.00. Corruption shows when he cannot be happy and thankful for what he has, and wants to rip the taxpayers off more. Until voters wake up and get rid of corruption it only gets worse.

THE DENTAL OFFICE of Baldwin, DDS made the “difficult decision” to close the Loyalton location effective July 21, 2023. They write, “It has been a pleasure to serve you here in Loyalton. If you would like to continue your dental care with our office, we would be happy to transfer your care and records to our Truckee office.”

HIGH SIERRA GAS needs you to ensure a safe, efficient winter. They write, “Looking back on the past year we know now that without your support and energy we would not be where we are today.” They thank you for your feedback this past winter and that they can best serve our community by communicating what they need from you to ensure a safe, efficient upcoming winter. They ask that you:
Maintain pathways to tanks and be cleared of personal items and snow removed off tops of the lid.
Part-time customers call the office at 530-832-1252 on winterizing your home and properly turn off propane.
Private roads please maintain a 12-foot wide path for trucks to maneuver in the snow.
Underground tanks must be marked! We will not search or dig out your lid. We hope you understand these responsibilities are yours.
We again, greatly appreciate your help and understanding that changes have been made to better serve you!

Nice photo in your 7/20 edition of the new LHS gym bleachers. The gymnasium was new in time for the '66-67 boys basketball season. It had telescopic seating on the same side as the new ones without the handrails. Additionally, I believe there was a seating gap at midcourt to accommodate a curtain that seperated the gym into two sections and, perhaps, gain seperation for LHS's rooting section and that of opposing teams?

We're looking for leads throughout the state, specifically interesting characters with fascinating items! The way we find people and collections for our show is through spreading the word far and wide so that people know we're coming to town.

Be sure to have them include their full name, city/state, contact information, and a brief description of their collection. Thanks for making our 24th annual Packer Lake Fish Day another successful day of fishing. The California Department of Fish and Game stocked Packer Lake with 2,000 lbs. of trout, and CDFW Biologist Amber Mouser and her family tagged 100 fish for the event. The children caught more than 65 fish, three tagged fish won $20 each to their successful anglers. Everyone was entertained by the Forest Service, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the South Yuba River Citizens League at the many activity and display tables, making fish-print T-shirts and paper fishes, and taking pictures with Smokey the Bear and Frank and Francis Fish! The Sierra County Fish and Wildlife Commission gave every child a raffle prize at the end. Special thanks go to Logan and Levi O'Donnell for their expert angling skills that enabled them to catch enough bluegill for the fish printing, and to all of the many Yuba River Ranger District and Tahoe National Forest employees, Engine 32, Bassett's Station, Sierra Hardware, Sierra Country Store, Gia and Joe Jimenez, Sylvia Lopez Ostrom and Camille Lopez for contributing your time, equipment, and supplies to this community event.
