NOVEMBER 7TH ISSUEBelle Starr is not accurate with this. Laura Loomer was NOT in town with the local GOP. She was in Nevada county near Auburn at a remote & secret location because of threats & protests against her by local democrats. It had to be moved from the public location to a private residence with security. She is not hate filled. She is a 31 year old investigative journalist who also ran for a congressional seat in Trump's district in Florida. Trump endorsed her and voted for her. She flew on Trump force with Trump to his debate with Kamala and is a regular attendee at Mar-a-Lago. I was at the event in Nevada County. It was awesome and Laura was keynote speaker and gave an outstanding speech. It had nothing to do with Sierra County. Belle lied to try to drum up hatred and vitriol. Just so you know……I'll message her on Facebook at some point and let her know she needs to be accurate with her journalistic prowess.Greg Thanks for a wonderful newspaper! Kelley Parker Winters, CA Hi Jan, You will probably get lots of letters about the Rio Grande station. I transferred from the 3rd grade in Greenville during Christmas vacation in 1953. The station is sitting where Lee said it was. The assembly Church was fairly new at that time. I know because that's where I attended church. Viola Graves was my teacher. Brother Brad Wilmoth was the pastor. I think that Junior Driggers was was the assistant pastor, but not real sure on that. Jim McCollum had the old shop where the race cars were built. It scared me so bad the night they fired up a finished car. I didn't know what was happening. I can remember Jim being asked by Pastor Wilmoth to tell him the next time they fired up to let him know so he could warn everyone. It happened again on church night. At that time in 1953 Jim McCollum had seven rentals and his dad living in that area by the church. Landis Garret, Grandpa McCollum, Sox Stevens, John Childress, Mr. Giminez and Eddie Stevens. Isn't it kind of funny how an article can bring back memories? Some sad, some others you wonder where they are now. I can remember a time when Chet Mitchell paddled my back side for getting too close to the landing where he was loading a logging truck. I learned a REAL fast lesson on that one. He never did tell my dad. I can also remember your dad flying over and around town with your brother playing his trumpet so everyone would be up and ready for school. Your dad flying in groceries and the mail stage also bringing in groceries. My dad, Eddie Stevens and my Uncle Lewis cutting ice chunks on the mill pond so the stores had ice to ice down groceries. Going to the old pharmacy and getting an ice cream cone. Getting new school shoes from Mr. Perkins and living in the old hotel. Girls not allowed in the pool hall. Great memories! Jean Miles Chilcoot Still enjoy reading about the area as it reminds me of my grandparents, Lois and Bison Robinson. Michael Pigoni, Cloverdale, CA I want to recognize some community members that stepped up and helped with the expenses incurred, over and above the donations, with the creation of our community pickleball court at the City Park. The costs totaled $1,424.81 and with the kind donations from the following, no expense was incurred by the City. Bill Merton, Jane Roberti, Reid Mason, John & Jeanne Whited, Ray Belli, Robert & Phyllis DeMartini, Debbie & Dennis Smith, Rhonda & Einen Grandi, Dorie & Pat Gayner and Sharon Cook. A big thanks to all! We totally enjoyed having the court this summer and hope others were able to take advantage of it when their schedules allowed. The court has it challenges with the sun in the early mornings and evenings with it running east to west but a small price to pay for some fun activity! Hopes would be to get the old tennis courts re-done as they run north to south, fenced and could have permanent nets. These courts would give more availability to the public and the schools for the classes they teach in the spring. If anyone has knowledge of grants, company donations, etc. and would like to be involved to tackle this project please reach out to me. Thank you Lee for putting this reunion together. My dad, Jim, has some great stories, as I'm sure you all do. November 1, 2024 at 5:16 pm By Chris Lonergan I soooo wish I could make it. What a AWESOME memory. And to be championship of the tournament was epic! Such a awesome memory! I love you all! AMERICA SPOKE Well, all you liberals, in all that dribble you have been spreading of President Trump over the past 7.75 years, now the 47th President, the American people of all walks of life and ethnic origin spoke November 5th, 2024, as they rebuked the Democrats Socialist/Communist manifesto. Americas voice came through loud and clear. So, pack up that haversack of lies, double talk, hatred, and dribble and watch while real America gets back on track, and back to work as a free Republic! President Reagan said in 1961; “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it on to our children in the bloodstream. The only way they can inherit the freedom we have known is if we fight for it, protect it, defend it, and then hand it to them with the well fought lessons of how they in their lifetime must do the same. And if you and I don't do this, then you and I may well spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it once was like in America when men were free.” Michael H.
