LETTERS TO THE EDITOR/OF INTERESTEditor,With the assault on the IRS by Republicans and President Musk, I have decided not pay my income taxes, kinda like the billionaires. After all, what the heck do they do with that money. Income taxes pay subsidies to the oil companies, president Musk with his subsidies for his electric cars, that other guy's golf game and his trips to Florida, oil subsidies, as well as wealthy farmers and ranchers so they can pay for their giant earth destroying trucks (I have one myself so I am an expert). Oh! Taxes also pay for schools, roads, cops, fireguys. But who needs schools, roads, cops, fireguys. No schools: no smart voters, and who needs smart voters.! Don McKechnie Sparks, Sierraville, West of the Mississippi. Well, there goes the neighborhood. Our local post office is retaining one of the good people (?) Trump is keeping in government. Recently, two pieces of financial information were ripped open on the edge where a person can obtain the financial summary. Are there more out there that have had their mail compromised? It is unfortunate that Mr. Trump has influenced people into believing it is their time to be brazen and crooked. This federal worker has engaged in an illegal act similar, to the ongoing actions of the current leadership. This person also, sends us all a warning for the future. Should you intend to use the local postal service for voting there are bad actors who would likely sabotage your vote. If you are like me, you will consider mailing important information like your voting ballot through a more trustworthy post office. For our small community, this creates an additional burden as travel is then required to a mail service. This bad actor promotes the desire of the “Right” to reduce the function of government. Trump's twisting of the system, the lies, and promotion of illegal actions has made this a world where you can no longer trust your neighbors. Sierraville Resident (Name withheld by request) Dear editor at Sierra Booster, As an elder, I've lived through many political crises in this country—but I have never seen an attack on our democracy like this. In the past, there was bipartisan opposition to lawlessness. Today, the guardrails are being dismantled before our eyes, and we must sound the alarm. Sincerely, Paul Lenart palan80@hotmail.com, WELCOME TO FOOD FOR THOUGHT - Dodi Von Tour Most community leaders, coaches, etc. expect instruction to be observed. Even parents expect children to obey them. On that same principle, there is a parable spoken by the Lord, saying: “A good man out of the good treasure in his heart brings forth good. And an evil man out of the evil treasure in his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. “Why do you call me 'Lord, Lord,' and don't do the things I say? Whoever COMES to me, (that's the 1st step) and HEARS My sayings (that's the 2nd step) and DOES them (the 3rd step), I will show you what he is like. He is like a man building a house, which dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. When a raging flood struck that house it could not be shaken. It was built on the ROCK. But he, who HEARS my words and DOES NOT put them into practice, is like a man who built his house on the sand without a foundation. The moment the flood struck, that house collapsed. The ruin was complete” Luke 6:48-49. Could this house be the white house, our house, the school house, an office or a court house? Yes! Sure! Why not? Are they built on the foundation of the Rock? It is commonly known that the rock is our Salvation, for Deuteronomy 32:4 says, “The Lord God, He is the Rock.” Isaiah 26:4 says, “Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD himself, is the ROCK eternal.” And Acts 4:11 says, “The Rock which was rejected by the builders is now the cornerstone.” In society today there needs to be a reconstruction and a restoration reflecting that ROCK as our foundation. You may not agree, but according to the authority of God's word, it is most certainly beneficial. Why? Because the houses built on the foundation of the ROCK will withstand the worst storms of life. Could we not apply some reconstruction and restoration to our foundations according to the ROCK, personally, in our community and country? Just return to the LORD, Hear what he says and do it. “Why do you call me, 'LORD, LORD,' and don't do what I say?” Luke 6:46. “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, my Rock and my Redeemer.” Psalms 19:14 CIV Submitted: 03/30/25 Article By: Sierra Booster |
