October 23, 2025Editor,Are American Corporations too powerful? This radical leftist thinks so. The megawealthy are cementing their grip on our government and dismantling Democracy. Also those agencies that police them. Hmmmm, what could go wrong? Since the Citizens United case eliminated the ability of state or local governments to control money flowing into our electoral process. corporations have overwhelmed ordinary folks and are rapidly destroying the middle class. Us middle classics are small business and working people, the retired and elderly. Many Democrats are also involved in this, allowing the wealth and income disparity to crush people that work with their hands. We need to tax the hell out of the rich like we used to. one little thing the government could do is eliminate the deduction for golden toilets. Don McKechnie Sparks, Sierraville, and the third paradise from the sun I pass the paper to my son to read, and even though many have passed that we knew, we enjoy it. Louise Kerr was my aunt and we spent many enjoyable times in Loyalton. Thank you, Cecelia Reinhardt Oroville, CA Dear Jan, Thank you so much for meeting with us and letting us go through your stacks of the wondeful Sierra Boosters. Your openness in sharing your life and your wonderful parents, your hspitality and your family stories made for a delightful day. We appreciate your efforts and your friendliness. Thanks again, Rod Bondurant - President Rochelle Bell - Secretary Camptonville Historical Society (Ed's note: We apologize for having misnamed Rod in the 10/9/25 issue.) Kevin Kiley, you made the news this week when you spoke out against Speaker Mike Johnson shutting down the House and sending everyone home (to cover up the Epstein files, my addition). Outside of Marjorie Taylor Greene, you're the first Republican to speak out. Good job. However, you just voted to DECIMATE healthcare for 17 million hard-working Americans so that BILLIONAIRES can be guaranteed a permanent HUGE TAX BREAK that they DON'T NEED. Not only healthcare, but you've also put our Social Security at risk, by shortening its insolvency date, causing a 24% cut in benefits to seniors in the near future. And – your vote ensures that many families and CHILDREN WILL GO HUNGRY each night. Now I ask you, when you drive thru Loyalton, or Portola, or Bishop or Lone Pine or Rocklin or any other town in District 3 – how many billionaires do you see? I don't see any. I see hard-working people who don't deserve what you've done to them. When you took the oath to “support and defend” our beloved Constitution you lied through your teeth. You turned right around and enabled Trump to destroy everything it stands for, and you're still doing it – no due process, no habeas corpus, illegal search and seizure, smashing peaceful protests, using the DOJ and FBI to attack and jail political enemies, using the military against American citizens, holding businesses and the press hostage for ransom, denying citizens the right to vote. The grifting and emoluments violations don't bother you at all? The plane from Qatar? Bitcoins? Complete silence. You won't even stand up against his moronic tariffs that are destroying farmers and everyone else trying to run a business or pay their bills. Do you WANT corporations to gobble up all the small farms? Do you WANT Wall Street to own every house in America? Americans are losing farms, they are losing homes. And YOU are causing it. How many of his embarrassingly incompetent cabinet members did you vote for? You and all the other spineless jackasses in the GOP. As a former Republican for many voting years, I am disgusted by all of you. Stop bowing to the billionaires. Live your oath or step down. Diane Higa, Ventura From Congressman Kevin Kiley: Fighting Gerrymandering Election day is two weeks away. On November 4, Sacramento politicians will ask you to vote against the independent Citizens Redistricting Commission, and allow politicians to draw their own district maps. Fortunately, Californians overwhelmingly agree: voters should choose their representatives, not the other way around. Californians have repeatedly voted to keep the independent Citizens Redistricting Commission in the past, which is why I'm confident this November will be no different.
